Katie is a passionate ally for all individuals within the LGBTQIA+ community. Living in a state where sexuality and gender identity are not often welcomed, she believes it is important that all marginalized individuals have a safe space to express themselves where there is no fear of judgement. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), LGB adults are more than twice as likely as heterosexual adults to experience a mental health condition. Transgender individuals are nearly four times as likely as cisgender individuals individuals to experience a mental health condition. LGBTQ+ youth also experience greater risk for mental health conditions and suicidality. It is vital for clients to have therapists who support their sexual orientation and gender identity. Katie believes in supporting and lifting up all clients and does not shy away from the topics of sexuality and gender.
